Hailing from Greensboro, North Carolina, and growing up in a touring Southern Gospel band, Alek Ottaway has been surrounded by music for his entire life. His father toured for much of his adult life, and he drew much inspiration from the incomparable sounds of family harmonies that often filled his childhood home. As a teenager, he took on a full time role in his family’s band, the Gethsemane Trio, singing the baritone part, and as his voice matured, the tenor. These early experiences on stage from a young age, along with self taught guitar and piano skills, helped shape him into the musician he is today.
In mid 2023, Alek decided to pursue music full time and has since opened for the likes of Uncle Kracker, Frank Ray, Jon Langston, The Dryes, Little Texas and Locash, played over 400 shows regionally, and continues to become a fan favorite across the local music scene.
Alek draws his inspiration for original music from artists like Jim Croce and James Taylor, (while still managing to produce a country “feel” to most) as well as a multitude of local song writers. He has plans to release his first EP album by the end of 2026.
